Dr. Demetris Nicolaides from Frederick Research Center and Professor Michael Petrou from the University of Cyprus showcased research outcomes at the fib Symposium 2023, themed "Building for the Future: Durable, Sustainable, Resilient," held in Istanbul, Turkey from June 5th to 7th, 2023.
Their collaboration, stemming from the BAM project, resulted in the presentation of three papers, each offering innovative solutions:

  1. 1. Novel Blast and Fire Resistant Composite Materials: Design and Preliminary Results Authors: Giannopoulou, I., Ponsian, R., Polydorou, T., Demetriou, D., Tsioulou, O., Lampropoulos, A., Petrou, M., and Nicolaides, D. This paper introduces pioneering composite materials designed to withstand blast and fire, presenting promising preliminary results.
  2. 2. Optimizing Ultra High-Performance Fibre-Reinforced Concrete for Impact Resistance Authors: Demetriou, D., Polydorou, T., Oikonomopoulou, K., Savva, P., Giannopoulou, I., Robert, P., Tsioulou, O., Lampropoulos, A., Nicolaides, D., and Petrou, M. Focused on enhancing impact resistance, this paper explores the optimization of Ultra High-Performance Fibre-Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC), offering significant insights into its application.
  3. 3. Strengthening of Existing Structures with UHPFRC: Concrete-to-UHPFRC Interfaces Authors: Lampropoulos, A., Tsioulou, O., Nicolaides, D., and Petrou, M. Addressing the critical aspect of structural reinforcement, this paper investigates concrete-to-UHPFRC interfaces, providing valuable knowledge for strengthening existing structures.

These papers are included in the Proceedings of the fib Symposium 2023, highlighting the contributions of the BAM project consortium. Their research not only pushes the boundaries of innovation but also holds immense promise for advancing the resilience and sustainability of future constructions.
